Russia to Help India with Manned Spaceship Mission
Backed up by Russia, India will set to creating its manned spaceship, Interfax reported. Besides, an Indian will fly into space at Russia’s Soyuz in 2013.
Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev is in India now. Starting from 2000, Russia’s and Indian leaders annually meet at the end of the year either in Delhi or in Moscow. The agenda of each summit always sets forth signing a package of documents related to political, economic and military and technological cooperation. One of the agreements sealed in time of the current visit is the understanding memorandum between Federal Space Agency Roskosmos and Indian Space Research Organization for joint development of manned spaceship missions.

The plans are that an Indian will make a flight at Russia’s Soyuz in 2013, Roskosmos CEO Anatoly Perminov said, specifying that a manned spaceship to be jointly constructed by Russia and India will be first launched no sooner than in 2015.

Indian government appropriated 950 million rupees ($20 million) to elaborate the first national project of manned spaceship. A crew of two will be sent into orbit for a week to alight in the Indian Ocean.

Indian satellite first entered the orbit in 1980, and the first cosmonaut of India, Rakesh Sharma, travelled to Soviet Salut-7 four years later.
