Russia to Deploy No Military Bases in Cuba, Venezuela
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Russia sees no need to establish permanent bases in Cuba and Venezuela. Putin made the respective statement during his annual TV question-and-answer session with the nation.
But Russia may use the military infrastructure of those states if needed, Putin pointed out.
“We have agreements with Venezuela’s leadership. I think Cuba’s authorities won’t refuse. If necessary, we will be able to use ports of those states for filling up our warships with foodstuff, for their refueling,” Putin said.
Russia may do it not only in the ports of those two countries but also in the ports of other states, the prime minister specified.
“I want to reveal a terrible military secret. Once we announced that our warships would go to Venezuela to take part in the joint exercise, we received very many inquires,” the prime minister said, pointing out he was very much astonished by it.
