Naftogaz to Spend IMF Money to Settle Gas Debt
Ukrainian Naftogaz that has faced difficulties with the payment of debts generated from gas supplies by RosUkrEnergo trader will probably refer to the IMF money, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
Naftogaz First Deputy CEO Igor Didenko told the journalists Wednesday that they will probably negotiate with the IMF to use a regular tranche for that purpose.
According to Didenko, other sources for debt settlement could be the advance payment by Gazprom for a portion of 2009 gas transit via Ukraine, revenues from domestic sales of gas and the budget appropriations to settle the difference in arrears of preceding years for the gas sold to the heat-supplying enterprises.
Naftogaz owes $380 million to RosUkrEnergo for the gas supplied in September, and another $780 million for October supplies, Didenko said, specifying that they will have to pay roughly $800 in addition for November supplies once the hand-over-acceptance reports are reconciled.
IMF grants loans to central banks of different nations to sustain the payment balance. Ukraine agreed about $16.4 billion and has received the first tranche of $4.5 billion.
