KAMAZ Master to Race in Dakar 2009
The Russian KAMAZ Master team is sending a car to the Dakar 2009 rally, which will take place January 3-18 in South America, RIA Novosti reports, citing team sources. “Cars and some of the team left Naberezhnye Chelny today for France, where the KAMAZ vehicles will undergo inspection before the end of the month,” a team member stated. He said that the team members will return to Naberezhnye Chelny before flying to South America on December 29 for the competition.
There will be three groups in the KAMAZ Master team. The first team will consist of pilot Vladimir Chagin, navigator Sergey Savostin and mechanic Eduard Nikolaev. The second team will be pilot Firdaus Kabirov, navigator Aidar Belyaev and mechanic Andrey Mokeev. The third team will be pilot Ilgizar Mardeev, navigator Vyacheslav Mizyukaev and mechanic Airat Mardeev.
The Dakar 2009 rally will begin and end in Buenos Aires and cover a 9000-kilometer course. The KAMAZ Master team has won the rally seven times. Dakar 2008 was cancelled due to security concerns, after which it was decided to hold the next rally in South America.
