U.S. VP Blames Russia for Ukraine’s Problems
U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney told Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko that Ukraine is going through hard times and those hard times are tied to actions by Russia, Agence France Presse reports. Cheney is on a visit to Kiev.
Cheney promised Ukraine the support of the United States. He is expected to make an official announcement on the evening of September 5, after he meets with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, where the topic of Ukrainian accession to NATO is likely to be discussed.

Ukraine has been in political crisis since the collapse of the Orange coalition, which has intensified the disagreement between Yushchenko and Tymoshenko over relations with Russia in light of recent events in the Caucasus.

Cheney arrived in Ukraine from Georgia, where he met with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. Both Tymoshenko and Saakashvili thanked the U.S. vice president for his country’s assistance in establishing democracy in the former Soviet Union.
