Diplomatic Attack on Russia Should Go On, Georgia’s Officials Say
In interpretation of Georgia’s Deputy Defense Minister Batu Kutelia, the fact that the UN Security Council discussed at the extraordinary meeting the violation of Georgia’s air by four combat jets of Russia could be viewed as the victory of Georgia’s diplomats.
According to Kutelia, the UN was unable to pass a special resolution July 21 due to the format of the organization. As the permanent member of Security Council, Russia has the veto right, the official explained.

The UN Security Council failed to reach a uniform conclusion at the extraordinary meeting that Georgia initiated after Russia acknowledged that its jets had violated the air of Georgia. But there were no plans to pass any resolutions at that closed get-together of the Security Council.

Georgia addressed the Security Council July 10, calling on it to convene an extraordinary meeting. On July 9, the RF Foreign Ministry announced that jets of the RF Air Force had made a short flight over South Ossetia to ease tension in the conflict area of Georgia and that breakaway province.
