FAS Responsible for Foreign Investment
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has assigned the Federal Antimonopoly Service the function of supervising foreign investment, according to a resolution of the cabinet of ministers. At the same time, the members of the government supervisory commission on foreign investment in Russia were confirmed. Putin himself will chair the commission. The deputy chairman will be First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov. Its secretary will be FAS head Igor Artemov.
The main task of the commission will be preliminary conciliation of deals for the purchase of strategic enterprises by foreigners. Under the law passed by the Russian State Duma in April of this year, companies working in 42 spheres of the economy, including atomic energy, manufacture and sale of arms, fishing, space and geological exploration, were given federal designation.
