Rewards for the Russian National Team
Speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov has promised to “think up” a special Duma award for the members of the Russian national soccer team, if it wins the Championship of Europe. “If there is a victory in the final, we will think something up specially,” Gryzlov told journalists after a session of the Duma. At that session, “maximum possible” encouragement of the team was discussed, Gryzlov said. The legislators decided to postpone the discussion of awards until the next session. “We are a little superstitious,” Gryzlov explained. He did not discuss possible outcomes of today’s match.
The semifinal match between Russia and Spain begins today at 10:45 p.m. in Vienna. Russian fans have 6200 tickets reserved for them. That is the standard quota for the semifinal, according to the UEFA, and Spanish fans have the same number available to them.

Moscow authorities are preparing to guarantee order on the streets regardless of the outcome of the match. There will be 3785 police on the streets with police Maj. Gen. Vyacheslav Kozlov, deputy chief of the Moscow Main Department of Internal Affairs (the police – Russian abbreviation GUVD), supervising. Managers of bars and clubs have been contacted about preventing disorderly conduct among fans. The first finalist in the 2008 European championship has already been determined. It will be Germany, which just beat Turkey 3:2 in a tense match.
