Business Reputation of Russia’s Arms Exporter Costs 80 Million Rubles
Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport has evaluated at 80 million rubles the damage done to its business reputation by the Kommersant interview of businessman Oleg Shvartsman, Interfax reported with reference to lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, who stands for Rosoboronexport in the dispute.
Rosoboronexport claims 50 million rubles from Oleg Shvartsman and 30 million rubles from Kommersant Publishing House, the lawyer specified.

In the interview that Kommersant published late in November, Shvartsman asserted that his Social Investments Corp. was acting on behalf of Rosoboronexport. The arms exporter refuted his words via Izvestia December 4.

Shvartsman responded by alleging that his interview had undergone some redaction, but Kommersant provided the text signed by the businessman.

In the next move, Rosoboronexport went to the Moscow Arbitration Court and the respective case was registered December 28, 2007. According to Kommersant chief Damian Kudryavtsev, the newspaper is not to be accountable in this case despite that the laws comments provide for calling to account mass media as a co-defendant for publishing an interview. Kommersant had no intention to impair the reputation of Rosoboronexport, Kudryavtsev pointed out.
