IFFHS Ranked Spartak Moscow Above Zenit St. Petersburg
IFFHS released its annual Top 350 Club World Ranking yesterday, January 8, 2008. FC Sevilla that won the UEFA Cup past year for the second time running topped the list compiled for starting from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007. Spartak Moscow with its 51st score was the best of Russia’s clubs, while Zenit St. Petersburg shared the 54th to 55th positions with Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds.
The good news is that the repeated dominance of Sevilla was also ensured by efforts of Zenit ex-forward, Alexander Kerzhakov of Russia, who had kicked a few vital goals past season. The third place in the championships and the UEFA trophy pushed Sevilla ahead of Manchester United (2nd score) and Milan (3rd rating).

As to the East Europe’s clubs, the pleasant surprise was the high score of Shakhtyor Donetsk in the final ranking. That Ukrainian club shared the 22nd-23rd positions with Fenerbahçe SK İstanbul.

Spartak Moscow that yielded the gold in Russia’s championships to Zenit revenged by outscoring St. Petersburg club in the IFFHS World Ranking. The Moscow players were more impressive in the Cup of Russia and in the UEFA Cup and climbed three lines above Zenit as a result. Lokomotiv Moscow scored the 130th to 134th, while CSKA Moscow failed to advance above the 171st to 173rd positions in the Top 350.
