Kholodov Case Defendants Acquitted Again
June 10, Moscow regional military court acquitted 6 defendants accused of murder of Moskovsky Komsomolets journalist Dmitry Kholodov, killed October 17, 1994.
First verdict of "not guilty" of Air Force intelligence chief Pavel Popovskikh, Deputy Director General of the ROSS private security firm Aleksander Kapuntsov, businessman Konstantin Barkovsky, head of a special unit of the 45th airborne regiment Vladimir Morozov, his two deputies Aleksander Soroka and Konstantin Mirzayanz was pronounced June 26, 2002. After the protest of General Prosecutor’s Office on May 27, 2003, the case was directed for a new investigation.
Father of the journalist Yury Kholodov declared his intention to apply to the European Human Rights Court.
In his publications for Moskovsky Komsomolets, Dmitry Kholodov covered military issues and wrote about corruption in the army. He was killed by a bomb planted in a briefcase on October 17, 1994.
